Program Overview
Our competency based program is designed to be completed in approximately 21 to 24months. The modules are assigned in 4 week segments (you will begin a new module every 4 weeks). Our training is asynchronous online, so that means the students logs on at any time within the week to complete the assignments. Completion time will vary depending upon each student’s abilities to reach industry standards.
Our Medical Transcription Program is designed to give students overall exposure to many different medical specialties. We have designed it to offer real-life experience in the field of medical transcription. Students will utilize medical transcription reference material, as well as software utilized within the industry.
Students are mentored throughout the entire process of medical transcription. We train according to The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (ADHI Education Approval Program) style guidelines. Instructors will direct students to medical reference books, as well as give feedback to each student individually. Through instructor comments, we work with students on Medicolegal Issues, HIPAA regulations, confidentiality issues, Joint Commission updates and what will be expected of a medical transcriptionist in employment. We train our students on acute care dictation (hospital). A transcriptionist greatly increases their employability when they are able to transcribe the most difficult type of dictation such as acute care. These include discharge summary reports, history and physical reports, consultation reports, operative procedures, clinical notes, emergency room notes; and ESL (English as a Second Language dictation). Medical specialties include orthopedics, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, urology, genitourinary and amongst others.
Note: Students must purchase all required textbooks and software. Each student must have a Windows compatible computer with Microsoft Word, internet access (preferably high speed) and a foot pedal. A deposit of $100 is required to secure training material. This deposit will be returned to the student once the equipment is returned to Exact-Med/UTTC Transcription Training.
